2011 NBA Playoffs Summary (Sorry, in advance, Dirk)

I love you Dirk! Truly, I do. Even if my metric says otherwise.

Very simple post today. Here is a summary table of the 2011 post-season according to ezPM. The table is sorted in descending order by ezPM100. And before you say it, yes, I realize that Dirk Nowitzki is ranked #12, even though you are probably thinking he should be #1. All I can say is, don't take it personally. Dirk doesn't. In fairness to Dirk (or maybe unfairness), ezPM just doesn't seem to "like" him as much as it does some other players, and I've yet to figure out a way to make it like him. It's not that I don't agree with you. I love Dirk. Love, love, love Dirk. But ezPM doesn't love him. Ok? Sheesh.

    Heat had 4 over +1 on O100, 3 on D100, 2 on R100.
    Thunder had 3 over +1 on O100, 2 on D100, 2 on R100.

  2. Hey, Evan. I think incorporating position opponent performance is a great feature of ezPM. At a season or career level, quality of opponent averages out enough that you can ignore it at minimal cost. But for a playoff series, or even the playoffs overall, that seems a much more problematic assumption. Players matched up against very good opponents will appear much worse, and vice-versa. I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble of fashioning some kind of quality-of-opponent adjustment (based on regular season ezPM, but I think you at least need to be careful about interpreting these ratings.

    1. I totally agree with you on that. The question is whether it's worth it or not to tackle that problem at this point. If someone was paying me, sure. Otherwise, uh, not sure. ;)
